Hello everyone,
It is a pleasure to have most of you participating once again in the Stanley Knoll Cup.
Those who have played before are familiar with the format we use, however, this year, we will have groups of 6 players for the first time, so we suggest to take a couple of minutes and read the rules.
In order to play more matches, we will play more doubles and less singles this time.
However, on Saturday, we will explain the exact rules for those who are not clear about how we will play.
Players and Teams
This is a Teams Competition, and we will have 4 teams of 6 players.
Round Robin
1 group of 4 teams, where each team will play against the other 3.
Format
In each match we will play a total of 7 games, where the final score could be 5-2, 4-3 or 7-0. Each team will get as many points as games they won in that match. Every game counts!
Series
In each series we will play 6 matches, to be played as follows:
2 Men Doubles
2 Mixed Doubles
1 Women Doubles
1 Men Singles
Men Singles
A different player must play in each series, which means that players are not allowed to play 2 singles matches over the weekend. The 4th player will play the definition in case 2 teams finish with the same amount of points.
2 Matches per Series Max.
In order to make sure that all the players have the same possibilities to play, none of the men can play 3 matches in one series.
Time to Rest
The 4 men will play the Men Doubles, but just 3 of them will get to play a second match (mixed doubles and men singles), which means that the remaining player will have a rest after the doubles in that series. The player having a rest must be different in each series.
Women Singles
We will play women singles just to decide the winning team in case 2 teams finish on Sunday with the same amount of points.
Schedule
Each team will play 2 matches on Saturday and 1 match on Sunday.
Final
As we will have just one group, the team that wins the biggest amount of games will be the overall winner.
There will be no final, except in the case that 2 teams finish with the same amount of points.
In that case, we will play a very short final, where we will play 3 games:
2 women singles (as they didn't play singles in the group),
1 Men Singles, where the players that didn't get to play singles in the group will have the chance.
It will be a Super Tie Break, first to 10 points.
Captain
Each team will designate a captain to facilitate the communication with the teams. The captain has to inform the formation before each series.
Website
We will have our Stanley Knoll Cup website (www.stanleyknollcup.com).
It will be online on Friday and you will be able to see everything there is to know about the tournament, including the previous editions.
